We are delighted to celebrate Amy and Ross’ first anniversary this week – although technically their anniversary only happens every four years as their wedding was on Leap Day, February 29, 2020. We loved everything about this couple when we first met – they had a great meet cute, an adorable engagement story, and a beautiful vision for their wedding day. The couple met while studying abroad, and after six years of dating, Ross proposed with the help of their cat, Mochi. The couple wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their life in Atlanta – an urban venue, delicious food and amazing cocktails, and an industrial but elegant design. Amy wanted the design to feel moody, dramatic, and romantic and to focus on the use of bold rich colors.
Amy and Ross chose to get ready with their wedding party in separate suites at the Loews Hotel in Midtown Atlanta. With a direct view of the Olympic Marathon trials happening on Peachtree Street below them, the couple was relaxed as they enjoyed time with their closest friends and family and prepared for the day ahead. Amy, her bridesmaids, and even her flower girl were adorned in plush velvet robes while their hair and makeup was done by Vigilante Cosmetics. Once dressed, the couple and wedding party departed the hotel for Peachtree Christian Church.
Amy’s whimsical bouquet featuring burgundy, white, and pink blooms along with mixed greenery popped against the stunning lace overlay of her dress. The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of Amy’s bouquet against their burgundy dresses. Ross and his groomsmen looked debonaire in their classic black suits. Following a beautiful ceremony in the sanctuary of the church, guests rode the trolley to the Stave Room for the cocktail hour and reception.
The bold rich colors of the attire carried through to the stunning reception. The 40 foot long estate table served as the focal point of the reception space. Along the center of the estate table there were arrangements in a variety of sizes featuring the burgundy, white, and pink wedding blooms as well as blue taper candles. Above the estate table was a 24 foot wooden plank suspended from the ceiling, covered in mixed greenery and blooms cascading over the sides with Edison bulbs hanging from the planks. It was a perfect mixture of industrial and soft elegance. The guest tables were a mixture of round tables draped in indigo, midnight blue, and gold linens, as well as farm tables, each seat noted with a navy shantung napkin. The couple had a perfect view of the band stage, which was surrounded by gold mirrored stage fronts and had a backdrop of boxwood walls covered in a gold geometric gate. One of our favorite spaces in the room included the lounge area, featuring lush velvet seating from CRUSH as well as a custom neon sign hanging in front of the glass garage door.
Following the salad course, guests were invited to visit various stations from Endive. Amy and Ross wanted their food selections to reflect their favorite cuisines, so guests were treated to several stations, including a Southern station of fried chicken tenders with miniature waffles and a homestyle grits bar, as well as a made to order stir fry rice and noodle station featuring potstickers. After a delicious meal, Emerald Empire Band packed the dance floor with back to back favorites. The couple’s cat, Mochi, made a few surprise appearances throughout the night – hiding in the back of their wedding cake and as a prop at the photo booth from Shutterbooth. About an hour before the end of the reception, guests were surprised with a late night snack from Endive of burgers and fries, and miniature Butterfinger milkshakes! Guests tossed rose petals as Amy and Ross departed their gorgeous reception, as a new Mr. and Mrs.
We were honored to be a part of Amy and Ross’ Leap Day wedding and loved looking back on it a year later. Thank you to the couple for choosing us to bring your vision to life and to all of the wonderful vendors!
